The "Petrified Weenie" is an award for outstanding performance during the racing year and it is bestowed upon someone in the group who has really "overdone" themselves (Pun intended). To be considered for nomination, one must be a driver, worker, crew member, official or contributing staff member who has exemplified outstanding service and performance in the name of VHS. Just as the "weenie" performed it's duty of being a weenie, so too have all the nominees given of themselves for the benefit of others. The beginning of this award came from an event dating back to the first Pocono race from June 18th. There was a cookout happening in the trailer of the Former Glory Racing team and there were many weenies performing their job of being cooked and eaten. But there was this ONE who was so intent upon performing his duty he just kept giving! Five weeks later, on July 22, the grill was opened again and there the petrified weenie was still performing as requested. A little shriveled and dry but still doing its best at being a weenie. This was the inspiration for the award and this year's recipient is Dave Panas for his untiring effort and undying enthusiasm to the benefit of all of us in the Volvo Historic Series.
Dave got this beautiful engraved tribute and Lenore received a lovely bouquet. Thanks Dave and Lenore!
Storm and the crew from Former Glory Racing also bestowed some gifts to the hostess of the banquet and to " The One Who Must Race". A thoughtful chair for Suzie and a useless, albeit great looking, tool in a wooden box for Todd. (No, there were no instructions included)
